The Estonian Medical Informatics Association (EstMIA) is a non-profit professional organisation dedicated to advancing the field of medical and health informatics in Estonia and internationally.

EstMIA promotes the integration of healthcare, research, education and digital innovation to support the development of modern, secure and interoperable health information systems. The association brings together clinicians, researchers, engineers, policymakers and industry partners to improve healthcare through the effective use of data and technology.

EstMIA also represents Estonia in the international medical informatics community and collaborates with organisations such as the European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI).

Objectives

The following objectives are defined in EstMIA’s statutes and form the long-term foundation of the association’s work.

Advancing science and education

Supporting interdisciplinary research and education in medical and health informatics through seminars, training programmes and conferences.

Promoting standards and best practices

Developing recommendations for the architecture, security and interoperability of health information systems and promoting the adoption of international standards.

Supporting the digital transformation of healthcare

Encouraging the development and integration of innovative digital health solutions and e-health services.

Raising public awareness

Promoting the importance of medical informatics and digital health through publications, events and outreach activities.

Representing Estonia internationally

Participating in international initiatives and contributing to European cooperation in medical informatics.

Developing collaboration networks

Strengthening cooperation between healthcare providers, universities, research institutions, companies and professional organisations working in the field of health informatics.
